READ GOOD CATEGORY

Whenever I need inspiration to create a tablescape, flower arrangement, an entire space or even a delicious meal, I turn to my books. I have over 100 cookbooks from over 26 years of cooking for my family. Now that we are completing rooms in our renovation in the beautiful Skagit Valley of Washington State, I've started curating design books that inspire me to create a space that makes people feel serene. The following two are my most recent books.

NO. 1

The Flower Hunter: Seasonal flowers inspired by nature and gathered from the garden by Lucy Hunter

Not only is this book absolutely breathtaking to look at, it's also a source if inspiration to view flowers differently. For instance, this book has inspired me to look out my car window at the blooms that are turning in for the season, but still might have a shelf life inside our home as a dried beauty. Cut to...wild thistle growing near our home. Loads of them just waving me down on one of my drives. Next thing you know, I've got them displayed in my home. You can see them on my Instagram here, far right.

It's also been a resource for designing a nook, a table or console like the one in the IG video above. All it takes is a few turns of some pages and an idea will come to life.

If you love making your house a home or know someone who does, this is a great gift that will keep on giving for all seasons. You can add this gorgeous book to your cart here.

Create: At Home with Old & New by Ali Heath

We're renovating a mid-century modern home and I've kept some of the original things, repurposed other things and brought in new yet looks mid-century to keep things feeling fresh but true to the era. It's not easy to mix, but this book helped me see what kinds of patterns, colors, tones, and stone come together for our specific situation.

That's the beauty of the book. You can glean old and new ideas for any style you're trying to create. For me, it's white marble, gold fixtures and warm wood to keep things old but new for our home.

Take a journey through beach houses, farm houses, rustic barns and modern homes to get inspired to make your house a unique blend of old and new. See what inspired me straight out of this book in this Instagram Reel.

 SMELL GOOD CATEGORY

I love to make candles and am getting ready to make gifts for friends and family for the holiday season...but it's a lot of work and takes time so I like to opt into essential oils and my new favorite diffuser. I've also found a small business on Amazon that makes a 4-pack of candles. Both of the following finds I've purchased 2 or more times so you know they're good. I also found a new and local essential oil maker in Skagit Valley with scents you just aren't going to find anywhere else. Let's take a look at this category.

No. 3

Essential Oil Diffuser - Shown here in planty vibes

I originally purchased this for my college kid's apartment, but I liked it so much that I ordered another one for myself. My mother-in-law liked it so much she bought one for herself in black! I've bought many diffusers over time and this one is the best so far. If you look closely at the image below, you can see how strong the diffuser is pushing all of that goodness into the air. It's heavenly!

It's got several light colors to fit your mood, a timer and the water lasts for a long time. I just wash it out every few weeks and start fresh.

 4-Pack of Best Smelling Candles

I've purchased these twice already and while making this blog post for you, I realize that I only have ONE left so it's time to reorder more for myself! Sweet Grapefruit is my favorite scent out of this pack but they are all seriously good.

Ok, so I told you already that I make my own candles, but when it's gift-giving season there's nothing like having these on hand to gift your besties. Here's what I love about these.

First, the scents are amazing, but the amber color of the glass makes them light up and set a mood at night. So sexy!

They are also long burning since they are made out of soy wax.

What I might love the most? Once they are spent, I reuse them as vases for my garden herbs and flowers or put a tea light and continue to enjoy the glow. I just pop them in the freezer overnight so the wax shrinks and I can dump the last bit of wax in the trash. It really is the simple things that make all the difference.

 FOR YOUR GOOD CATEGORY

I know it's gift-giving season, but you're doing so much for others, why not treat yourself to two of my favorite things for yourself. Recently, I told a friend about this first one and her jaw dropped. Be warned!

Skincare Refrigerator - Yep!

There is a back story to most things in our home, but this one is kinda funny. I installed a coffee bar in our primary but didn't include a built-in refrigerator which defeats the purpose of having a coffee bar because I still have to go downstairs to get half-n-half, and so...this skincare fridge wound up in my Amazon shopping cart and got delivered pronto. It will fit a tiny carton of creamer as well as some other items. 😉

For starters, it is portable with an adaptor if you are camping or on an early morning road trip and need to put your face on and it lights up with several settings for cool and warm tones.

Also, it preserves your products by keeping them cold AND they feel so good when you put them on...especially facial setting spray and toner. It holds quite a lot, too!

If you hadn't also guessed, it will hold a nice can of House Wine in case you'd want to stock up for guests so they don't have to go downstairs either.

No. 6

Tom Ford Eau de Soleil Blanc Spray, 1.7 Ounce

Normally, I get the spray oil with mica sparkles for summer but they were out, so I got the same thing in more of a perfume. It's light and musky and I love it for all seasons! The bottle is cute and when it's gone, I'll refill it with an essential oil spray for the room. A perfect gift for someone who has everything.
